Sad Depressed and Cutting

Feeling sad is an emotion which does not garner enough attention, usually those who are filled with sadness are advised that they will soon get over it; this is not always the case. When in comes to self harm cutting there is often a feeling sadness which may not be detected by the person self harming. For many people they have become so use to being sad and depressed they have accepted this negative emotional condition as being normal.

More people cutting and depressed

Statistics show that Europe has been experiencing rising numbers of self harm cases; one of the most frequently cited reasons by those self harming was a feeling of sadness. There are more people on antidepressants than at any other time in the history of the Western Hemisphere; it is important to know that sadness is continually associated with self harm.

Dr Sinead McGilloway from Maynooth University in Ireland was one of the authors of a recent study which revealed emotional sadness as a catalyst for driving so many to self harm. What is very shocking is the fact that so many of those cutting themselves are not receiving any help.

“People were falling through the cracks of service provision”. There is clearly a gap there that is being met by Pieta House (an organization responsible for identifying and helping those who self harm)” said Dr. McGilloway.  Sad, depressed and cutting has become the new normal for so many people; unfortunately many are living this way without getting any help. The usual treatment for those who are self harming is antidepressants, this has helped many but it does not get to the root cause of the cutting.

The pros and cons of medications
Drugs have been a huge help for the millions of people who are depressed, it is a fact that there are millions of people who simply could not function without the use of some antidepressant medications; but this should not be the last step in the healing process.
The underlying cause of cutting and self harm will always be emotional stress; it is the hidden stresses which are at the root cause of all self harming, this is what medication does not address.

Thoughts of cutting yourself? What you need to know

Thoughts of cutting yourself is something which should be taken very seriously, although there are many people who feel that cutters are not suicidal this is not necessarily the truth. There are many people who are self harming who may not know that this tendency can lead towards suicide. If you are entertaining thoughts of cutting yourself you are not alone, there are millions of people worldwide who are contemplating the very same thing. If you feel suicidal it is crucial that you speak with someone immediately or call emergency services, this is available in every country.

Suicidal

Cutters are often closer to suicidal contemplation than they may be aware of; this is one of the hidden dangers of self harm. Many cutters say that they are not thinking of taking their life but self harm is a slippery slope rooted in stress that can lead to suicidal contemplation. The roots of self harm are found in deep emotional stresses, these stresses may be very apparent (such as school or family problems). When the emotional stresses of life do not find a needed outlet this may cause a person to “turn on themselves”. Self harm is an emotional response to what seem like an inescapable stressful condition. Thoughts of cutting yourself must be taken seriously and can lead to other acts of self harm.

The usual course of treatment for those who are self harming is medications, antidepressants medication can be very helpful, and they do numb the emotional pain. While medications can be helpful they should not be the final stage in your recovery, drugs will never address the root cause of the emotional stresses.

Help to Stop cutting myself

“I am seeking help to stop cutting myself”, this was the email that we received over the weekend from a young woman who is battling the urge to self harm. We are very familiar with the temptation and urges which are associated with self harming, it is important to remember that cutters have an addiction; the action is a brain response to a stress.  The young woman’s cry is very revealing, “I am seeking help to stop cutting myself”, and the good news is that the person acknowledges that there is a problem.

Why we cut

Self harm is a brain reaction to an emotional stimuli, it is a coping mechanism employ by the brain to deal with a stressful situation. The numbers of people who are self harming is increasing in the United States and Europe, a recent report from Mayrood University highlighted the tremendous number of women self harming in Ireland. The University study reports that more than 10 percent of young women are self harming, what makes matters worst is that there is no way to tell how many more people are not being counted. We can now understand that like our emailer’s message “Seeking help to stop cutting myself” is not as rare as once believed, many millions are self harming worldwide.

This website has made it clear for over the last 5 years that the numbers of people self harming will continue to climb; this is because the root causes of the action are not being addressed. Doctors usually prescribed antidepressants for those who self harm, this can be a great help but we are left with a major problem, medications do not address the root causes of cutting.

There is some good news; there is a new technique which has been helping many people with seeking how to stop cutting themselves in an amazing way. Cutting and Depression is a growing problem

Cutting and depression are often linked, but the sad fact of the matter is that a new study shows that most in England are not being treated despite being depressed.  Mental illness is a very debilitating illness, a depressive mental state affects every aspect of a person’s life, for example many are unable to hold steady employment. Those who self harm may get an emotional urge to cause injury to their own body. According researchers cutting and depression seem to have a very strong link.

More depressed, but few being treated

In a very startling study which was released last week, it was reported that over 2/3 of people in the England who are depressed are not receiving any treatment for the condition, this is very alarming.

Professor Simon Wessely of King's College London stated that about 70% of people receive absolutely no treatment for clinical depression in the United Kingdom.

"People are still routinely waiting for – well, we don't really know, but certainly more than 18 weeks, possibly up to two years, for their treatment and that is routine in some parts of the country. Some children aren't getting any treatment at all – literally none. That's what's happening. So although we have the aspiration, the gap is now so big and yet there is no more money," he said.

Often young people (who are statically the majority that are self harming) are the least likely to get any treatment at all, with cutting and depression linked we can see how this is a very troubling situation. It is crucial that those who are self harming understand that it is very important to take steps to address the self harm. Many cutters will need antidepressants, this has helped many but do stop there; take your healing further.

Medications can be great but they will never get to the root causes of why you are depressed and self harm.  The Red Report is still the number one method to heal self harm alone and in private; you will learn how to address self harm on your own, the report was created by cutters for cutters and it works.

Depressed self harming? What to do about this

We received an email from a young woman 23, who is depressed and self harming, she has stated that she is in a very difficult stage of her life and sees no hope. It is a sad fact of the matter that cutting and other forms of harm is increasing, we have predicted from our own research that unfortunately more people will turn to cutting, it is going to get worst as more people seek a way out of the corner which they feel they are backed into. If you are depressed and self harming you are not alone, in this post we will address how depression starts early in life, leading to a future generation of cutters.  A new study reveals that children who are identified as depressed from Pre School are often affected by depression straight up until middle school.

Depession starts early

As depression increases so does the risk of self harm, studies show that timing is crucial, the earlier the stressful situations can be addressed the better the chance for a hopeful outcome. If you self harm, do recognize that this action is an outward manifestation of an internal stress. When it comes to depression timing is crucial according to a new study from Washington University.

In a new study, the researchers revealed that children suffering from depression as young as age 4 were almost 3 times as likely to battle depression in elementary and middle school as children who were not depressed at very young ages.

It’s the same old bad news about depression; it is a chronic and recurrent disorder,” said child psychiatrist Joan L. Luby, MD, who directs Washington University’s Early Emotional Development Program. “But the good news is that if we can identify depression early, perhaps we have a window of opportunity to treat it more effectively and potentially change the trajectory of the illness so that it is less likely to be chronic and recurring.”

What the doctor reveals is very important, she mentions that we have a “window of opportunity” (meaning that children should be treated early), after this window closes it becomes much more difficult to treat.

The internal stresses of life start early, if you are depressed and self harming you are turning on yourself.  Internal stresses can originate from school, families, relationships or abuses; these are often the real causes for self harm. If you are self harming you are not a bad person, you have internal stresses that cause you to turn on yourself.

We highly suggest you download the Red Report and read it immediately, then read it again until you identify your root cause. The Red Report is used in 10 countries to stop self harm on your own, in private.

Ways to stop cutting yourself? A teacher gives student a blade!

If you are seeking ways to stop cutting yourself but are tired of hearing the same old advice which really does not seem to work; you are not alone.  People trying to help who do not understand self harm often become very discouraged when they hear that a loved one or friend has started self harming. There are times when the person harming is seeking ways to stop self harm. You may want to stop cutting yourself but have just not found the solution to the problem. In a very disturbing case a teacher in the United Kingdom (England) provided the blade to a student so she could self harm.

Frustration and very little answers

Trying to get a person to stop self harm can be a very discouraging experience; the person trying to help may become very frustrated or “fed up” to hear that their continual efforts have been unsuccessful; this is possibly what is at the root cause of a teacher’s thinking to provide a blade. This very bizarre and unhelpful choice was widely reported in the news.

At Unsted Park School in England where children between the age of 7 and 16 attend there was a school policy to give the students blades when they felt they needed to self harm as along as it was supervised.  One the school policy was discovered it was quickly abandoned just six days following outraged parents and protests. There is an investigation which will render a decision against the teacher and school very shortly.

The Procedure: Officials told staff to give the student access to sterilized blades and take the child to a bathroom where the student could cut themselves.  The sad fact of the matter is that most cutters are seeking ways to stop cutting themselves; this is not an acceptable solution. The school policy is a cop-out.

The teacher waited outside the bathroom, and then monitored what the student had done. The teacher was taught how to dress and treat the wound after the self harm was complete.

Ways to stop cutting yourself? They had No answers!

The astonishing policy of allowing supervised self harm underscores the fact that most people have no solutions to self harm, why weren’t the students given “The Red Report: Self Harm solution”  to read? The report has been shown to help a person stop self harm in 10 countries by alone; yet we see the same solutions being offered to those who self harm.

The school officials admitted that they thought this was the “best solution”  ‘This was a short-term, local procedure introduced by the head teacher and school principal who genuinely believed it was in the best interests of the pupil”  said a spokesperson for Priory Group which runs the school.   Translated, this means that they had no answers to cutting.  The answer to stop cutting yourself has been revealed to thousands.

The Red Report Self Harm Solution which was started in Denmark was published to read online by cutters, it was designed for those who self harm to have a solution without therapists, doctors or even loved ones. It is downloaded regularly and read in over 10 countries for over the last 5 years.
